In order to guarantee the association’s professional standard and speed up of the establishment of a professional association, better service to the community as well as raising the professional image of TCM Doctors and Acupuncturists. The Canadian Association of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (CAATCM) Committee has decided:

All CAATCM members should be taken the Ontario Acupuncture Exams in various stage and group.
New members are required to pass the Ontario Acupuncture Exams within a year
For all those who failed, membership will be discontinued the next year.
Ontario Acupuncture Exam is delivered by Ontario Acupuncture Examination Committee (OAEC); the examination includes both written and clinical section.

OAEC has determined the first stage of examinees is those members who registered after Jan 1st, 2008 and the newly registered members:

Examination Time: May 8, 2010, 9am—12pm
Place of Examination: Galbraith Building,

Registration Time: Prior to March 15, 2010
Examination Fee: $450 (Extra10% after March 15, 2010)

On behalf of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, I am pleased to announce The 6th World Congress of
Chinese Medicine 2009 Melbourne. This illustrious event will take place from 5th – 6th December 2009 in Melbourne,
Australia, a city voted as one of the most liveable cities in the world.
December in Australia heralds the start of summer, a time where the promise of spring still lingers in the air, offering a
warm, colourful and inviting environment. This special event is organised by the World Federation of Chinese Medicine
Societies, and hosted by the Federation of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Societies of Australia. This important event
will be held at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne, one of the most prestigious five star hotels in Australia. It is our wish that
Chinese medicine professionals will come together to work hand in hand to bring Chinese medicine to the world in order
to serve humanity. We welcome you all, scholars of Chinese medicine, from all around the globe.
You may already know that in the year 2000, the state of Victoria in Australia is one of the first states in the world to
successfully implement statutory regulation of Chinese medicine with the passing of the Chinese Medicine Act 2000.
Since then we have seen rapid growth and development in the profession of Chinese medicine in Australia. In Victoria
there are two Government funded universities and two privately operated institutions that offer undergraduate,
postgraduate and doctorate degree courses in Chinese medicine. There have also been State and Commonwealth
Government funding allocated for research into Chinese medicine.
After statutory regulation of Chinese medicine was implemented in Victoria, several other countries have followed in our
footsteps. Chinese medicine is one of the most important elements of Chinese culture. The continuing development of
Chinese medicine is extremely important. Chinese medicine has made tremendous contributions to humanity over the
last three thousand years. Such a service shall not go unnoticed.
Western medicine has developed at an exceptional rate; however Chinese medicine has its own unique strengths that are
unmatched. The holistic approach embodied in Chinese medicine has been demonstrated as successful time and time
again. There are increasing numbers of western medical practitioners becoming interested in Chinese medicine.
The purpose of this Congress is to set a platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas about Chinese medicine.
It is our hope that this Congress will showcase Chinese medicine to the western world, and provide western medical
practitioners with a better understanding of the scope and strengths of Chinese medicine.
I wish that in the future both Chinese medicine and Western medicine will come together to provide a better
understanding of health and wellbeing, and offer a wider choice of healthcare for people of the world. Your participation
in this Congress is much appreciated and will ensure this event is a fruitful one.

                                                   NOTICE

The current year Ontario Acupuncture (written) Examination will be conducted on May 23, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the University of Toronto Examination Center.  Anyone interested in writing the examination should register no later than April 25, 2009.

The Ontario Acupuncture Examination (OAEC) commenced in 1999 with the objective to protect and uphold the TCM Acupuncture standard in Ontario in order to safely and effectively serves the community.

The OAEC is currently the only professional TCM Acupuncture written examination based on formal TCM acupuncture theory and clinical methodology and is also the future basis for the establishment of acupuncture standard in Ontario.

During the last 10 years, 400 practitioners had passed the examination and have since been able to safely serve the community.

The question of whether the Ontario acupuncture standard follows the TCM or the western medical theory in its development is a key to the future success or failure of TCM.

In order to ensure that the Ontario acupuncture standard is established based on professional TCM acupuncture knowledge and not on western or other medical knowledge for the protection of the future formal development and quality of TCM acupuncture services in Ontario, the OAE has an essential and decisive role.

We hope all practitioners of TCM and Acupuncture to participate in this examination in order to obtain the OAEC certification.  A course review will be conducted before the examination (the review course time and location will be noticed later).

Registration time: Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. to noon and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
