CAATCM Notice
The Ontario Acupuncture Examination will take place at the
University of Toronto Examination Center on
September 8, 2007
The Federation
of Ontario Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine will sponsor the Ontario
Acupuncture Examination which will take place at the U. of Toronto Examination
Center on September 8, 2007.
The Ontario
Acupuncture Examination first took place in 1999. It was run by the Assessment
Strategies Inc. Examination Body as recommended by the Ontario Government at
the time, and in accordance with Canadian Examination rules and regulations. It
is the same examination body that holds licensing examinations for dentistry
and nursing professionals. It is a legal examination but is not operated by the
Ontario Government. It was because of this Examination that the Conservative
Ontario Government announced its intentions to regulate Traditional Chinese
Medicine in 1999 and set up procedures for the regulation process. From 1999 to
2003, the Ontario Acupuncture Examination was held 4 times and 270 candidates
successfully passed the examination. The Examination was halted in 2003 when
the Ontario Government set the TCM regulation process in motion. The Federation
of Ontario Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine Societies will sponsor
the resumption of the Ontario Acupuncture Examination which will take place on
September 8, 2007. This Examination may serve as the requirement for allowing
TCM practice under the “grandfathering clause” and for acupuncture insurance
coverage during the transitional period. CAATCM members are encouraged to
participate.
